City
Council |
On many occasions
Jeannette formed alliances with her colleagues.
For example: |
| |
Co-sponsored a
resolution to review the city's
zoning ordinances to control overdevelopment.
14 of 15 councillors agreed. Councillor Thomas Stanley chose
not to sign on. |
Jeannette had the
legal experience and vision to
realize that the plan pushed by then City Council
President Stanley failed to protect the Waltham Hospital
long-term. |
| |
| |
Convinced a majority
of the councillors to budget money to enable the city council
to hire an expert to expedite zoning reform
(Councillor Stanley voted no). |
Jeannette strongly
opposed rezoning the entire hospital land because the rezoning
left the city with minimal control over the
hospital's land and the hospital's future. |
| |
| |
Sponsored a resolution
to file state legislation to give the City of Waltham a Right
of First Refusal to Fernald School land. |
Jeannette strongly
opposed selling the city-owned heliport land at the hospital
for well below market value. (Then City Council
President Stanley pushed this below-market sale through). |
| |
| |
Continues to work
with the majority of the City Council and residents of Lakeview
and North Waltham to protect their homes and neighborhood from
the Indian Ridge overdevelopment. |
Jeannette voted
against changing the zone for the former Olympus Hospital on
Trapelo Road from single family to multiple family because of
the glut of luxury apartments in the city. (City Councillor
Stanley chose not to vote). |
| |
Co-sponsor of the
Long Term Debt Committee because long before Jeannette was a
candidate for mayor, she was addressing overspending in the
city. |
Long before a candidate
for mayor, Jeannette
was a vocal proponent for reorganization of
city departments. She voted against unqualified candidates
for city positions, and excessive pay raises
which were not supported by the flawed salary study. Councillor
Stanley has stated
experience "isn't the be all to end all". |
| |
| |
On other occasions
when controversial decisions had to be made, Jeannette did not
take the easy way out. She led rather than followed. She could
not follow what was being pushed because it did not serve the
best interests of the people. |
