Examples Of Jeannette's Work On Behalf Of Our City:

When millions and millions of dollars were at stake for the
students, teachers, and taxpayers of Waltham,
Jeannette was there* and had been working overtime with the
School Department and School Committee to obtain 90% state funding
for the city's school construction projects.
* State Rep./Mayor-Elect David Gately did not attend this important
state hearing at the Department of Education on December 21, 1999.

RESULT: |
On
January 10, 2000, the Commissioner of the Department of Education
approved 90% state funding for the city's elementary schools,
instead of a 62% state reimbursement.
The potential net savings to Waltham taxpayers is 28%. This
is significant because the current estimated cost for the school
construction program is 271 million dollars, with the state
paying 189 million and the city paying 82 million dollars. |
|
When the Massachusetts Attorney General and Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) were breathing down the backs of city officials and
the city was facing millions of dollars in potential statutory
fines due to an environmental hazard, Jeannette was the lead
negotiator for the City of Waltham.
| END RESULT: |
The
City was only assessed a $25,000 fine (an additional $25,000
was waived) and an environmental management program for schools
was agreed to in May, 1999. This program is praised by the Attorney
General and the DEP and utilized as a model statewide. |
When the city's largest taxpayer* went
bankrupt, owing 2.6 million dollars in back taxes (6% of the
city's entire levy), Jeannette (lead negotiator) and City Treasurer
Lenza were able to recover the entire debt from the
Debtor and the United States Bankruptcy Court. Such a result was not
the case with other municipal bankruptcies.
* This was one of the largest office park bankruptcies in Massachusetts.

The
City's finances were not jeopardized. |

because Jeannette has the best interest of the city
at heart. |
