Why Can't Waltham?
Economic Revitalization Plan For The City
Of Waltham
Jeannette believes
the City of Waltham is a good city with great potential for
economic renewal. |
Waltham needs to create an environment
for economic growth and actively seek retail development. |
Jeannette believes that the
business/commercial districts from River Street to Moody Street
to Main Street to Lexington Street to 128 should be connected
to meet the needs of our city. |
Putting It Together City-Wide
Jeannette believes the City of Waltham should take the initiative
by:
Meeting with residents
to survey the economic needs of the residents - retail, commercial,
etc. |
Meeting with business and commercial
owners to establish cooperative economic goals and objectives. |
Establishing an Economic Revitalization
Commission. |
Tapping the expertise
of ordinary citizens, elected officials, city officials, business,
community and education leaders. |
Developing a plan
with respect to all business areas
| sidewalks
and crosswalks |
aesthetic
improvements |
| lighting |
cleanliness of the city |
| streetscapes |
economic incentives for
sign and storefront renewal |
| retail stores |
Budgeting appropriations
annually to renew areas of the city. |
Just Like Fixing Up Houses In Neighborhoods, Jeannette Believes,
Bit-By-Bit, Economic Renewal Will Catch On, And, Step-By-Step, The
Business Areas Of Our City Can Be Renewed.
Action Plan
The City of Waltham will do its part. Jeannette believes that City
Hall and the Common are ideal locations to start this economic renewal
and can become welcoming showpieces and the focal point for historic
tourism. City Hall could be the first stop for a Historic Waltham
walking/trolley tour proceeding to the Mill, Moody Street, Main Street,
Lexington Street and north, connecting historic points of interest
in our city.
With a reasonable amount of money and working with historical, veterans',
garden, business and school groups, the City could renew the Common
by:
Identifying
and detailing the historical significance of each monument.
Creating lower
maintenance perennial gardens and additional tree planting.
Building and restoring
veterans' parks to honor all veterans. |
Improving the bandstand
area. |
